NCCE Educates Amasaman Calvary Presbyterian Church Congregation on Responsible Digital Citizenship

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its public education efforts on responsible digital citizenship with a sensitisation programme for members of the Amasaman Calvary Presbyterian Church.

The engagement sought to equip congregants with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the digital space safely, responsibly, and in accordance with ethical standards.

Facilitating the session, Mr. Castro Kofi Appiah, Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, educated participants on key digital safety issues, including misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, cyberbullying, online fraud, impersonation, digital footprints, and outing.

Mr. Appiah explained the differences between false, misleading, and harmful information and highlighted how the rapid spread of such content on social media and other digital platforms can negatively affect individuals, communities, and national development. He cautioned participants against sharing unverified information and urged them to verify the authenticity of content before forwarding it to others.

The resource person also discussed the growing threats of online fraud and identity impersonation, encouraging participants to exercise caution when sharing personal information online. He stressed the importance of safeguarding personal data, respecting the privacy of others, and remaining vigilant against suspicious online activities.

Participants were further educated on the concept of digital footprints and reminded that actions and content shared online can have long-term consequences on personal reputation, educational opportunities, and professional prospects.

Mr. Appiah encouraged congregants to become responsible digital citizens by using social media and other digital platforms in ways that promote truth, respect, and positive engagement while avoiding activities that undermine the rights and dignity of others.

The programme forms part of NCCE’s ongoing mandate to promote civic awareness and empower citizens with the knowledge needed to participate responsibly in an increasingly digital society.

Participants expressed appreciation to the Commission for the timely engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to applying the lessons learned in their online interactions.
