NCCE, NACOC Educate Grace love Creations Students on Drug Abuse

The Effutu Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Winneba Narcotics Control Commission, has engaged students of Grace Love Creations on the dangers of drug abuse and misuse.

The engagement, at the premises of Grace Love Creations in Winneba, formed part of efforts to educate young people on the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote responsible citizenship.

In his opening remarks, the Effutu Municipal Director of the NCCE, Mr. Bosson-Amedenu Sena, urged the students, particularly members of the NCCE Civic Education Club, to take the education on the drug menace seriously.

He cautioned them against abusing drugs, explaining that drug abuse could have devastating effects on their health and contribute to lawlessness and other behaviors that undermine good citizenship and the values enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

A Narcotics Control Commission Officer, Mr. Albert Sam, subsequently educated the students on what constitutes drug abuse and misuse, the various types of drugs, and their effects on the human body.

He advised the students against taking medication without prescriptions from qualified medical professionals, stressing the need to seek appropriate medical advice before using drugs.

Mr. Sam also cautioned the students against accepting drinks from other people, noting that some individuals could be introduced to drug abuse through substances secretly added to beverages.

He mentioned substances such as “red,” “balloon,” “super glue” and petrol, and explained how some abusers inhale, sniff or introduce such substances through the nose and mouth, exposing themselves to serious health risks.

The officer urged the students to protect their health and future by avoiding drugs and reporting drug-related activities to the appropriate authorities.

The engagement, which began at 10:00 a.m. and ended at 11:30 a.m., was attended by 49 female students and two teachers.
