Fortune has smiled at the children in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, as the Office of the National Commission for Civic Education and the Ghana Health Service Directorate of the Municipality have partnered to champion child vaccination and promote general healthy living among residents within the enclave.
This partnership has become necessary following the decline in turnout during vaccination and weight-check sessions for children. Failure to partake in these crucial health undertakings can result in devastating future repercussions, which is what has informed the concerns being raised.
During a town hall meeting, the head of the Ga South Directorate of Ghana Health Service, Mrs. Esther Appiah, in her remarks, pointed out the relevance of administering vaccines to children right from birth. She implored the parents to ensure that their lads get their weight checked regularly, noting that child vaccination has recently been extended to children of up to nine (9) years.
Alerting them on the rise in the number of cases of Mpox, Mrs. Appiah cautioned them to employ similar protocols observed during the peak of COVID-19, such as frequent washing of hands, limiting handshakes, and avoiding touching surfaces with bare hands, among others.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Commission’s Office in the Municipality, Mr. George Obeng Osei, expressed excitement about the collaboration and indicated that staff of the office will embark on rigorous sensitisation activities targeted at renewing mindsets and changing behaviours to enhance the general well-being of residents of the Municipality.
The meeting took place at Hobor in the Domeabra-Obom suburb. Key dignitaries, including the Queen Mother of Hobor, Mama Hobor I, Assembly Member for the Hobor Electoral Area, Hon. Peter Adonu, and Government Appointee to the Assembly, Hon. Noah Amewusika, graced the occasion with their presence.
