The Deputy Chairman of Operations at the NCCE, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, has called on Ghanaian youth to rekindle their interest in civic responsibility and democratic engagement. Speaking at a public education event held at Heritage Christian University College in Amasaman under the Women and Youth in Democracy (WYDE) project, he stated that it is vital for the youth to pay attention to governance and national development matters, especially those often neglected in their daily lives.
Mr. Akuamoah emphasised that young people must see themselves as central players in Ghana’s democratic process, not passive observers. He explained that understanding and participating in civic matters like elections, transparency, and accountability are critical for building a stronger nation. According to him, engagements such as these are meant to enlighten and equip the youth with the knowledge to make informed contributions to national conversations.
Director of Programmes at the NCCE, Dr. Imurana Mohammed, used the occasion to explain NCCE’s Civic Education Club concept/platform to the students, noting that steps are being taken to establish a functioning club on campus. He explained that the initiative is designed to provide students with a practical platform to engage in civic matters and develop leadership skills.
Mr. Kofi Koomson from the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons also took the students through a session on the dangers of vigilantism and the legal and social consequences of arms possession. He cautioned the youth to resist being manipulated into unlawful activities and instead contribute to peace-building and national stability.
