The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace and national cohesion, urging young people to embrace dialogue and reject violence as a means of resolving conflict. This call was made by the Yendi Municipal Director of NCCE, Mr. Osman Kassim, during the 10th Annual Linujil Yam Festival held in Bunbong, a vibrant celebration of Konkomba heritage and agricultural prosperity.
Addressing a diverse gathering of chiefs, elders, youth groups, and government officials, Mr. Kassim praised the Konkomba community for using cultural platforms to foster unity. He emphasized that the festival’s theme,“Unity and Peace: Bringing All Tribes in the Northern Region together for Peaceful Coexistence,” perfectly aligns with the NCCE’s mission to build tolerant, inclusive communities across Ghana.
“Peace is the seed from which development grows,” Mr. Kassim intimated, encouraging the youth to become ambassadors of peaceful dialogue. He further stated, “Unity is not the absence of diversity but the celebration of it. When we stand together as one people, we can overcome every challenge that divides us”.
Mr. Kassim also called on traditional leaders and community stakeholders to continue nurturing inter-tribal harmony, stressing that sustainable development in the Eastern Corridor depends on collaboration and mutual respect.
This year’s celebration of the Yam Festival drew high-profile attendees, including Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John, Members of Parliament from Yendi and Mion, and Municipal Chief Executives from both districts. Paramount chiefs and opinion leaders from various ethnic groups also joined the festivities, reinforcing the festival’s role as a unifying force in the Northern Region.
As cultural drums echoed and youth groups showcased traditional performances, the message from the NCCE rang clear: peace is not just a civic duty, it is the foundation for progress.
