Bawku NCCE Rallies Students and Teachers to Fight Against Plastic Pollution

The Bawku Municipal office of the NCCE joined students and teachers from selected schools to commemorate this year's World Environment Day under the theme, “Plastic Waste Pollution – A Threat to Our Water, Our Health, Our Future.” Held at the Bawku Municipal Assembly Hall, the event featured a strong call to action by Mr. Daniel Baya Laar, the Municipal Director of the NCCE, who highlighted the severe impact of plastic pollution in the area. He drew attention to how littered plastics are clogging drains, polluting rivers, and threatening public health, and reminded participants that the responsibility for change lies with every citizen. Mr. Laar urged students to become ambassadors for a cleaner Bawku and encouraged teachers to integrate environmental responsibility into school culture.

The event featured vibrant presentations from five (5) Junior High Schools through speeches, poetry, songs, and drama. Schools such as Fountain Gate and Manga JHS used pictorial presentations to explain the dangers of plastic waste as well as the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Kpalwega JHS recited a poem and sang a song, while Ahzariya JHS, Baptist and Glory JHS collaborated to perform a drama showing the harmful effects of plastic and practical solutions for reuse. Mr. Mumuni Abugri from the Environmental and Sanitation Department and Rev. Father John, Chairman of the NCCE-Bawku IPDC, reinforced the civic and spiritual responsibility of protecting the environment. Participating schools and the Municipal Director for GES were presented with certificates, marking a successful and impactful observance of World Environment Day.
