NCCE Assin Foso Promotes Sanitation and Civic Responsibility Among Artisans

The Assin Foso Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department, has sensitized members of the Reform Artisans Association on sanitation and civic responsibilities.

The engagement at the Association’s usual meeting place at Pumpsie, Assin Foso, aimed to equip artisans with knowledge on proper waste management, personal hygiene and the importance of maintaining a clean environment to prevent the spread of diseases.

Speaking at the event, Madam Innocentia Akosua of the Environmental Health Department stressed that poor environmental sanitation could contribute to the spread of communicable diseases such as cholera and diarrhea. She urged the artisans to dispose of waste properly and keep their surroundings clean by avoiding indiscriminate littering.

A staff member of the NCCE, Mr. Michael Sagoe, also educated the Association members on their civic responsibilities. He explained that keeping their surroundings clean was not only a civic duty but also formed part of citizens’ responsibility to protect and safeguard the environment, as stipulated in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Mr. Sagoe further noted that maintaining clean workplaces would not only promote good health but could also create a welcoming environment and attract more customers to their businesses.

The Chairman of the Reform Artisans Association, Mr. Odom Memu, expressed appreciation to the NCCE and the Environmental Health Department for the engagement and for reminding members of their responsibilities towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The program formed part of efforts by the NCCE and the Environmental Health Department to promote environmental sanitation, good hygiene practices and responsible citizenship at the community level.
