Substance Abuse inhibits your progress in life – Damongo SHS students told

Students of Damongo Senior High School have been cautioned to desist from substance abuse, as it has a high tendency to impair their ability to climb the ladder of life. This call was made during an engagement facilitated by the Damongo Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education.

Addressing the students, the Damongo Municipal Director of the Commission, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, intimated that it is delusional to abuse substances, with the notion of a sudden escape from the pressures of life. “If you think that smoking marijuana, cigarettes, and abusing pain medicines will save you from your reality, then you are deceiving yourself”, he stressed.

He thus admonished them to deal with situations head-on instead of subjecting themselves to such influences, which are detrimental to their well-being.

The Municipal Director also advised them to reach out to the school's counselling team for assistance if the situation becomes overwhelming.

This conversation was tied into an interaction, which bordered on how they can add to efforts towards developing our country, as part of activities to mark the Constitution Week Celebration, one of NCCE’s flagship programmes.

Speaking on the theme, “Ghana’s Future, Our Collective Responsibility”, Mr. Ibrahim shared the trajectory of Ghana’s political journey with the students, emphasising the relative political stability we have enjoyed for over three decades.

He further charged the students to uphold the national values of honesty, discipline, accountability, hard work, patriotism, and environmental sustainability consciousness. According to him, these values are essential for national cohesion and development.
