As part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, the Agotime-Ziope Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged pupils of Abordaxe D/A Basic School on the theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
The District Director, Mr. Christian Ahiawodzi, advised the pupils to exercise caution when accepting friend requests on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. He warned that many individuals who seek online friendships may not have genuine intentions and could expose children to risks such as sextortion and other forms of online exploitation, which could negatively affect their future.
Mr. Ahiawodzi further emphasized that technology is rapidly advancing and has become an integral part of modern life. He encouraged the pupils to prioritize the use of the internet for educational purposes, including conducting research for assignments and acquiring knowledge, rather than engaging in inappropriate online activities such as viewing nude content.
He noted that the responsible use of digital platforms promotes respect for human dignity, safeguards human rights, and encourages adherence to the laws of Ghana. He therefore urged the pupils to become responsible digital citizens by applying constitutional values both offline and online.
The engagement formed part of the Commission's efforts to educate young people on their rights and responsibilities in the digital age and to promote responsible online behavior among school children.
