NCCE Deepens Advocacy Against Teenage Pregnancy in Ga South Municipality

The Ga South Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has intensified its campaign against teenage pregnancy through a series of church engagements in the Nsurobri, Akweiman, and Tuba communities, located within the Domeabra-Obom and Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro suburbs. The outreach is part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the growing concerns surrounding teenage pregnancy in the municipality.

At separate sessions, Mr. Abraham Amankwa Adjei and Mr. Dan Abonyi Yamoah, both staff of the Commission, emphasized the crucial role of parental involvement in shaping young people's behaviour and decisions. They encouraged parents to communicate openly with their children, provide consistent guidance, and monitor their children's activities both at home and outside.

The officers advised adolescents to resist peer pressure, avoid risky lifestyles, and use social media responsibly, warning that careless behaviour can easily lead to situations that threaten their future. They reminded the youth that education remains an important tool for securing better opportunities, and urged them to stay focused on their studies and make responsible choices.

Highlighting the consequences of teenage pregnancy, not only on the girl child, but on the boys, families, and the entire community, the officers noted that early pregnancy often disrupts education, limits prospects, and places emotional and financial burdens on young people. Parents were further encouraged to show equal attention to both boys and girls, as proper guidance and supervision are critical in preventing teenage pregnancy. They were urged to create supportive home environments where children feel comfortable discussing challenges and seeking advice.

The NCCE reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with churches, community leaders, and youth groups to promote the well-being of young people.
