The NCCE in Krachi East has empowered young people to take the lead in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. The Youth Accountability Engagement Forum was held at The Church of Pentecost, Dambai Central.
The Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, Nana Boame Robert, welcomed participants and emphasized that corruption, the misuse of power, position, or entrusted resources for personal gain, undermines development across all sectors of society. He stressed the importance of youth participation in natonal development and civic life as key factors in building a just and progressive nation.
Mr. Ezekiel Awudi, NCCE’s Regional Programmes Officer, provided an overview of the ongoing Rule of Law and Fight Against Corruption Project, which is being implemented by the NCCE with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and co-funded by the European Union. He outlined the project’s objectives, including sensitising citizens on the rule of law, promoting ethical conduct, reducing corruption, and empowering young people to demand accountability from leaders.
A representative from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. Gyan Bright, engaged the participants on the rule of law, human rights, and civic responsibilities. He highlighted the role of youth-led advocacy and peer education as effective tools in promoting transparency. Participants were also introduced to the Whistleblowers Act and other legal reporting mechanisms, equipping them with the confidence and knowledge to speak up against wrongdoing.
The forum concluded with an open discussion where participants shared insights, asked questions, and exchanged ideas on how to effectively combat corruption in their communities. The event created a space for dialogue and empowerment, leaving young people better prepared to champion accountability and good governance within the Krachi East Municipality.
