The Ghana Immigration Service, Tema Regional Command, has emerged winner of the 4th Edition of the Security Services Constitution Quiz Competition organised by the Tema Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education.
The competition was held on Wednesday, 20th May 2026, at the Tema West GES Directorate Conference Hall in Community 2, Tema, as part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration. It was organised with support from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Multi Pac Ltd., and Indomie Ghana under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.”
The event, chaired by the Vice-Chairman of the Tema Metro Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, Nana Ogyedom Ama Tsetsewa I, brought together security agencies, civic education officials, students, teachers, and invited dignitaries to promote constitutional awareness, democratic values, and responsible citizenship.
Participating institutions were the Ghana Immigration Service, Tema Regional Command; Ghana Navy, Eastern Naval Command; Ghana National Fire Service, Tema Regional Command; and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Tema Regional Command. The quiz sought to deepen security personnel’s understanding of the 1992 Constitution and strengthen interagency cooperation.
In his welcome address, Mr. Fidel N. A. Bortey described the 1992 Constitution as the foundation of Ghana’s democratic stability and progress. Speaking on the theme, he urged citizens to uphold constitutional values both in physical spaces and in the digital environment, stressing that civic duties also apply online.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Mawuli Agbenu, commended the Tema Metro and Tema West offices for their commitment to civic education. He noted that Constitution Week celebrations have been observed annually since 2001 to create public awareness on the Constitution and other national issues.
Mr. Agbenu explained that although the 1992 Constitution was drafted before the rise of modern digital technology, its principles remain relevant in the virtual space. He cautioned against misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, cyberbullying, and irresponsible online conduct, urging citizens and public officers to protect Ghana’s image and constitutional values online.
At the end of the keenly contested competition, the Ghana Immigration Service emerged winners, while the Ghana Navy placed second. The Ghana National Fire Service came third, with the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority placing fourth.
The event was attended by Rev. Francis Guggisburg Tetteh, Chairman of the Tema Metro IPDC; Madam Fati Mahami, Sub-Regional Director of CHRAJ; executives of the Tema Metro IPDC; representatives of the participating security agencies; and students and teachers from selected senior high schools.
The programme ended with the presentation of awards and sponsors’ products to the participating teams, and a call on citizens and public institutions to uphold democratic values and promote responsible civic conduct both offline and online.
