The second phase of public education on tax compliance has ended in the Builsa North District in the Upper East region. The campaigns undertaken by NCCE staff in the district targeted market women in the informal sector.
Public education was in line with the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) efforts to generate adequate revenues to meet Ghana’s developmental needs. It also seeks to rope in income earners and the business community to be captured in the tax net.
The Acting District Director, Mr. Jeffery Adda, said apart from targeting market women and shop owners, the NCCE has engaged trade associations, business groups, Faith-Based Organisations, Women Groups, and other entrepreneurs in Sandema and its environs to pay taxes to the government.
Mr. Adda was confident that, the just-ended tax education campaign will yield the desired results. According to him, payment of tax is a civic responsibility and Ghanaians must honour their tax obligation to the state.
He urged business owners and market women to pay their taxes regularly and promptly to avoid financial penalties.
He noted that governments around the world depend on taxes to develop economies and Ghana cannot afford to lag behind.
