Bono Regional office of NCCE marks Constitution Week Celebration with Fire Service

The Bono Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on officers of the Bono Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service to commit to selfless service to the nation in line of duty.

The Deputy Regional Director of the Office, Mr. Peter Kwabena Gyasi, in his welcome remarks, indicated that the strength of Ghana is underpinned by unity in diversity and the shared commitment towards shaping the destiny of our country. “Think of Ghana as one of your properties, and give it the required attention, dedication and oversight, just as you would do to your properties”, he added.

Meanwhile, resource person for the event, Assistant Divisional Officer 1 (ADO1) Eric Frimpong, cited corruption, lack of patriotism, over-politicisation of national issues, lack of accountability, leadership crises, and abuse of power and office as some of the challenges impeding Ghana’s development.

Registering his concern on the slow pace of development of our country, he highlighted, “Ghana gained independence with its contemporaries like Malaysia and Singapore, but sadly, we cannot compare ourselves to these countries because they are far advanced in development”.

ADO1 Frimpong also mentioned the seeming dwindling trend of patriotism among the citizenry, emphasising that, inasmuch as it is necessary to look out for oneself, we cannot rule out the national interest, calling for the need to strike a balance in serving both priorities.

This engagement is in commemoration of the Commission’s flagship programme dubbed “Constitution Week Celebration”, which seeks to put a spotlight on the 1992 Fourth Republican Constitution of Ghana.
