PUBLIC EDUCATION ON COVID-19 VACCINATION, SIM CARD RE-REGISTRATION AND CHILD PROTECTION INTENSIFIED

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Upper West Akyim District of the Eastern Region has intensified public education on the ongoing SIM Card re-registration exercise, COVID-19 Vaccination and Child Protection issues. The public sensitisation took place at the district capital, Adeiso.

During a joint public engagement exercise, officers from the NCCE and the Ghana Health Service reiterated calls for citizens to observe the COVID-19 safety protocols to reduce the spread of the disease. The NCCE continues to collaborate with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the media to sensitize citizens on the causes, mode of spread, preventive measures and vaccination to promote herd immunity.

The team reached out to women groups and traders. They encouraged pregnant women and lactating mothers to take the vaccine since it poses no great risk to them.

On the SIM re-registration exercise, an Assistant Civic Education Officer, ACEO Boniface Awuku Philip, during a radio on air discussion show urged listeners to have their SIM cards registered to avoid being unable to make or receive calls, access the internet and use mobile money services after March, 2022.

The Upper West Akim District Director, Mr. John Selasi Awutey on the side-lines engaged Cassava Processors Association on the issues relating to Child Protection, according to the Children’s Rights Act, 1998 and Chapter 5 of the 1992 Constitution. The Constitution states that, “Every Child has the right to be protected from engaging in work that constitutes a threat to his health, education or development. Also, no child shall be deprived of medical treatment, education or any social or economic benefit”.
