NCCE Promotes Drug Abuse Awareness in Aveyime Schools

The North Tongu District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has organised a civic education programme for pupils of Aveyime R.C JHS, Aveyime United JHS, and Aveyime Girls Model JHS to raise awareness on drug abuse and its effects on society.

Held on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, the programme formed part of the Commission’s efforts to educate young people on the dangers of drug use and to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. Pupils were taken through the physical, mental, cognitive, and socio-economic effects of drug abuse.

The Commission cautioned students against experimenting with substances such as alcohol, nicotine, and opioids, noting that they can cause addiction and damage vital organs, including the brain, liver, and kidneys, while also hindering personal development.

Students were further advised to be cautious of drug-related content on social media and to avoid exposure to harmful influences online.

The pupils pledged to stay away from drugs and to share the knowledge gained with peers and family members to promote a healthier and drug-free society.
