The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Zenu Zonal Office, has engaged learners of Royal Charisma School, Katamanso No. 1 JHS, and Presby Primary School as part of activities marking World Environment Day under the 2026 theme, “Climate Action,” with the slogan, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
During the engagement, learners were educated on the importance of protecting and safeguarding the environment. They were encouraged to plant trees and avoid environmental pollution by refraining from dumping plastic waste and rubbish into gutters, drains, and water bodies, particularly during rainfall.
The learners were also advised against channeling household drainage systems into public drains and were urged to keep their surroundings and communities clean at all times to help nurture environmentally responsible citizens.
Facilitators further explained climate change as a long-term alteration in weather patterns caused mainly by human activities such as deforestation, the burning of fossil fuels, and pollution.
The session highlighted the critical role young people play in reducing the effects of climate change, promoting environmental sustainability, and creating a healthier future for all.
