NCCE Ga South Sensitises Balagonor Churches on Child Online Abuse

The National Commission for Civic Education has sensitised congregants of The Apostolic Church, Ghana, and The Church of Pentecost at Balagonor in the Ga South Municipality on child online abuse and responsible digital citizenship.

The programme, held on Sunday, 23rd May 2026, formed part of the Commission’s public education efforts to promote child safety and protect young people from risks associated with the misuse of digital platforms.

The exercise was facilitated by NCCE officers, Madam Mabel Sroda Ahiagba and Mr. Abraham Amankwah Adjei, who educated participants on the growing dangers children face online. They explained that while the internet provides opportunities for learning, communication, creativity, and social interaction, it can also expose children to cyberbullying, online grooming, exploitation, internet scams, identity theft, and inappropriate content.

The officers advised children to be cautious about the videos, pictures, comments, and personal information they share on social media and other digital platforms. They stressed that information posted online can travel widely, remain accessible for many years, and affect future opportunities, including applications for scholarships, jobs, leadership positions, or travel abroad.

Parents and guardians were encouraged to take active interest in the use of mobile phones, tablets, and other internet-enabled devices by their children. The facilitators urged them to guide children on safe internet practices, monitor their online activities, and create open communication channels for reporting suspicious or harmful online encounters.

Congregants were further encouraged to promote respect for others in the digital space and to report cyberbullying, online harassment, grooming, scams, or other suspicious activities to trusted adults and appropriate authorities.

The NCCE reaffirmed its commitment to sustained public education on emerging social issues and called on parents, religious leaders, teachers, and community members to support efforts aimed at protecting children and building a safer digital environment.
