The Deputy Chairman of Operations at the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Samuel Akuamoah, has led a civic engagement session for inmates at the Forifori Prisons Camp in the Afram Plains South District, underscoring the importance of civic responsibility, discipline, and rehabilitation in Ghana’s correctional system.
The sensitisation forum, attended by inmates and staff of the Ghana Prisons Service, focused on instilling civic values, strengthening awareness of rights and responsibilities, and preparing inmates for reintegration into society.
In his address, the Deputy Chairman emphasized that civic education is not only for citizens outside prison walls but also for those within, as every individual, irrespective of the prevailing situation, is duly recognized by the state as having a role to play in nation-building.
Mr. Akuamoah highlighted themes of discipline, respect for authority, and the need for inmates to embrace rehabilitation programs as pathways to becoming productive citizens upon release. Staff members were also encouraged to uphold professionalism and integrity in their duties, ensuring that correctional facilities remain centers of reform rather than punishment alone.
The Deputy Chairman leveraged the opportunity to fraternize with the authorities from the Ghana Prisons Service stationed at the correctional facility, and discussed points of collaboration at the regional level, towards ensuring that no one is left out in the quest to stimulate civic consciousness among the citizenry.
