As part of its ongoing stakeholder engagement drive under the theme “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility”, the Tema Metropolitan Office of the NCCE has paid a courtesy call on the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema, Hon. Ebi Bright.
During the visit, the Tema Metro Director of the NCCE, Ms. Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, outlined the Commission’s constitutional mandate and emphasized its commitment to educating Ghanaians on the 1992 Constitution and other government policies. She highlighted key collaborations the office has undertaken, including:
● Tax education campaigns with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA),
● SIM card re-registration awareness with the National Communications Authority (NCA),
● Anti-corruption sensitisation under the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP).
Ms. Badu also spoke on the Commission's initiatives to promote constitutional awareness in the metropolis. She cited the Annual Constitution Quiz competition among security agencies, first launched in 2023 with sponsorship from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), as a notable success. She added that a similar initiative is replicated at the basic school level to instill civic values and constitutional knowledge among pupils.
Hon. Ebi Bright, in welcoming the NCCE team, praised the Commission for its vital role in fostering civic responsibility. She underscored the importance of deepening collaboration to address pressing issues such as:
● Local governance and community participation
● Environmental sustainability and Ramsar site protection
● Illegal mining and its impact on the metropolis,
● Sanitation and public hygiene
● Accessibility for persons with disabilities, especially in public institutions
● Enforcement of development control regulations
The MCE proposed institutionalizing regular civic education in schools across the metropolis and enhancing the NCCE’s involvement in disseminating Assembly policies. She also suggested aligning the NCCE’s quarterly activity guide with the Assembly’s development agenda to ensure a unified approach to community engagement.
In a show of support, Hon. Ebi Bright pledged to improve the working conditions of the NCCE Tema Metro Office, and to provide resources for joint outreach activities aimed at community development and education.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to foster deeper cooperation, align civic education efforts with local development priorities, and strengthen public participation in governance across the Tema Metropolis.
