NCCE Asene Manso Akroso Sensitizes Pupils on Dangers of Drug Abuse

The Asene Manso Akroso District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission, has sensitized pupils from selected schools in the Asene community on the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

The engagement formed part of efforts to educate young people on the harmful effects of drug misuse and to encourage them to make responsible choices that will protect their health, education and future.

During the session, pupils were taken through the dangers associated with drug and substance abuse, including poor academic performance, mental health challenges, indiscipline, violence, addiction and other behaviours that may negatively affect their personal development. They were also advised against experimenting with drugs or allowing themselves to be influenced by peers or adults who may introduce them to harmful substances.

The facilitators explained that drug addiction among young people can destroy their future and place a burden on families, schools and society. They therefore encouraged the pupils to remain disciplined, focused on their studies and committed to healthy lifestyles.

The District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Maxwell Nkansah Botwe, commended the collaboration between the NCCE and the Narcotics Control Commission, noting that such partnerships are important in helping pupils and students understand the dangers of drug abuse and stay away from illicit substances.

He said the continuous education of young people on drug abuse prevention would go a long way to reduce their exposure to harmful substances and help them become responsible citizens.

Mr. Botwe further advised the pupils to report any person who attempts to introduce them to the use, sale or distribution of narcotic drugs. He urged them to report such persons to their parents, teachers, school authorities or the appropriate law enforcement agencies for the necessary action to be taken.

The pupils were also encouraged to choose good friends, avoid bad company and take part in positive activities that promote discipline, confidence and personal growth.

The engagement was interactive, giving pupils the opportunity to ask questions and share their views on how young people can avoid drug abuse in their schools and communities.

The Asene Manso Akroso District Office of the NCCE reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant institutions to educate young people on issues that affect their safety, development and contribution to national progress.
