The NCCE in order to encourage strict observance of hand hygiene in schools, as part of COVID-19 safety measures, has advised pupils and students to desist from using hand sanitisers as lipsticks. They were also advised against drinking the sanitisers with the notion of curing COVID-19 disease, emphasising that the hand sanitisers were primarily meant for sanitising the hands. Director of Sene West NCCE, Mr. Cletus Y. Suuk, made these appeals during a tour of some schools in the District in the Bono East Region, entreating them to continue observing the safety protocols.
The schools engaged in the sensitisation exercise included Drobo R/C Primary and Junior High, Konkondua R\C Primary, and Junior High, Lemu S.D.A Primary and Junior High, Kanto R\C Primary and Akenten Presby Primary and Junior High Schools.
Since COVID-19 is real and spreading, Mr. Suuk and Ms. Stella Boatemaa, staff of the Commission, sensitised the pupils on the proper use of the sanitisers to sanitise their hands. They were equally tasked not to relent in observing the other safety protocols including washing hands under running water with soap, wearing a facemask, covering ones’ mouth when sneezing or coughing among others.
Besides demonstrating the proper use of the hand sanitiser and facemask, the Director also encouraged the pupils to frequently wash reusable masks.
Mr. Suuk further explained why one should wear the face mask and took time to exhibit how to properly wear a face mask and how to remove it, how to wash it. He also took them through the proper handwashing techniques. He eased the fear of the people about the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise and encouraged residents who were within the categories to take the shot when it gets to their turn.
Although some Pupils run home because it was believed the NCCE Staff had come to inject them with the COVID-19 vaccine, Mr. Suuk, explained the work of the NCCE to the pupils and stressed that the vaccines are safe.
Ms. Boatemaa, a Civic Educator also cautioned the pupils not to leave the facemask in their bags or pockets, but wear it when they were stepping out of their homes as well as observe social distancing among other COVID-19 safety measures.
Meanwhile, on the outcome of the election petition, the Director encouraged residents in the district to accept the verdict as pronounced by the Supreme Court and live in peace. He charged them to uphold the peace in their locality in order to enhance the development of the district.
