EFFUTU MP DONATES 1992 CONSTITUTION TO BASIC SCHOOLS

The New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has donated copies of the 1992 constitution to the National Commission of Civic Education in Winneba for onward distribution to Basic Schools in the Effutu Municipality.

The donation was after the outgoing Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, Joseph Abban placed a formal request to the Member of Parliament (MP) for the purchase of copies of the 1992 constitution for basic schools in the Municipality.

Handing over the constitution on behalf of the Member of Parliament, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ahaji Zubairu Kassim, noted that teaching the Constitution is vital because it is the premier collectively bargained contract present in the lives of Ghanaians.

He said that teaching the Ghanaian children the constitution makes them more aware of their citizenship rights and responsibilities as well as participate in the democracy of the state.

Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim intimated that the Member of Parliament who doubles as the Deputy Majority Leader of Ghana’s 8th Parliament recognizes the need for students to know the law for the maintenance of peace in the society as well as enable them to feel more comfortable living in their respective communities.

Touching on the need for people to accept diversity by embracing different races, backgrounds, and religions in order for society to grow, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu noted that children will better appreciate society’s looks and feelings if they are taught the constitution which is the most important document that talks about equality of all people before the laws of the land.

He praised the selfless contribution of the outgoing NCCE District Director for the Municipality, Joseph Abban, and wished him well in his future endeavours as he left to take over as the Cape Coast Metropolitan Director of the National Commission for Civic Education.

The Central Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr Robert Ekow Ewur Quansah, who received the items on behalf of the Commission expressed gratitude to the MP for the support. He indicated that the books (Constitution) would be distributed evenly amongst the Basic Schools in the Municipality to serve the purpose for which they were procured to broaden the horizon of the students on the constitution being used to govern the country.
