The National Commission for Civic Education, in collaboration with the European Partnership for Democracy, has initiated a programme dubbed “Women and Youth for Democracy” (WYDE) aimed at reorienting these categories of society to appreciate the critical role they play in the democratic system of governance.
In view of this, the Commission engaged a section of the youth in Ayawaso West Municipality to deliberately go all-out to make their voices heard by pushing for a seat at the table where the ‘big’ decisions are taken for the larger good.
The Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, Esq., in her address urged the young ones to equip themselves with the requisite knowledge and skills to boost their value, just as befits positions at the helm of affairs. “The future of which you are supposed to be leaders is finally here, but the onus lies on you now to prepare yourselves adequately to match up to the available opportunities”, she emphasized.
Speaking on adopting good behaviours, she cautioned them against falling prey to negative peer influence and societal pressures that may drive them into living certain lifestyles, impeding their chances of attaining higher heights. She stressed the abuse of drugs, which has become a bane we grapple with as a country, advising them to desist outright since it will only put them in harm's way.
