The Tema Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with support from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), has organized a Constitution Quiz Competition under the theme, “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility”, for selected basic schools in the Metropolis. This activity underscores the importance of empowering the younger generation with knowledge of the Constitution to prepare them for active participation in Ghana’s democratic governance.
The event, which took place at the TMA New Assembly Hall, brought together pupils, teachers, and stakeholders to deepen constitutional knowledge among the youth.
Director of the Tema Metro Office of the Commission, Ms. Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, in her welcome address, expressed gratitude to the Metropolitan Assembly for its constant support to the Office over the years. She further emphasized the importance of the competition in executing the mandate of the Commission to educate citizens on their constitutional and civic rights and responsibilities.
The Language Coordinator of the Ghana Education Service’s Office in Tema Metropolis, Mr. William Obeng, commended the NCCE for its commitment to nurturing civic consciousness among the populace.
Representing the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive was Madam Bridget Affum, who stressed that the 1992 Constitution of Ghana is the backbone of Ghana’s Democracy, safeguarding the nation's sovereignty. She encouraged the pupils to carry forward the lessons of the day beyond the competition into their everyday lives as citizens.
The participating schools included SOS Hermann Gmeiner JHS, Amen Basic JHS, Community 11 Complex JHS, and Mante-Din Drive JHS, with Community 11 Complex School emerging as the winner. They were closely followed by SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, with Mante-Din Basic School and Amen School taking the third and fourth positions, respectively.
