Report on the Commemoration of National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving in Kasoa

Awutu Senya East Municipal observed its Annual National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Friday, 3rd July, 2026. The observance brought together citizens from all parts of the municipality, which included interfaith services across Christian and Islamic communities under the theme: ‘Resetting our values to build the Ghana we want '.

The Municipal Assembly held two prayer sessions, one with Christians and the second with Muslims. The observance aimed at celebrating Ghana’s rich religious heritage and encouraging interfaith harmony and national cohesion by bringing the major faith communities together in worship and prayer.

This initiative also sought to promote a culture of gratitude and unity while acknowledging and seeking God’s intervention for peace, progress and prosperity in the country.

The first session of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving was observed with a solemn interdenominational Service at the Church of Pentecost, Kasoa Central.

Addressing the Christian Community, Dr. Apostle Emmanuel Ackom, the Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, reiterated the need for unity, tolerance, and collective responsibility in building a stronger nation. He said God wants Peace and Unity and urged the audience to reset their values and offer prayers for unity, integrity, and transformation for Ghana to move forward in peace, prosperity, and development. He then led the house to offer prayer in this regard.

The afternoon session was subsequently held at the Kasoa Central Mosque. Dignitaries present were the Chief Imam, Zongo Chief, Opinion leaders, and the general Muslim Community of Kasoa as well.

The Municipal Chief Imam, Sheikh Mohammed Misbah Harun, led the Muslim community to observe the day, seeking Allah’s blessings for peace, prosperity, and protection for the country. Islamic prayers offered also centered on themes of unity, integrity, responsible leadership, and national development. Members were urged to continue contributing positively to national development and to support peaceful coexistence among all religious groups.

Furthermore, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honorable Seth Sabbah Serwornoo-Banini, speaking, emphasized the need for continued prayer for Ghana’s growth, peace, and prosperity across both faiths, stating that a peaceful society creates a stable environment. He therefore encouraged citizens to resolve conflicts through dialogue, tolerance, and respect for differences because the Municipality is made up of diverse groups and has to live together with cooperation and understanding.

Awutu Senya East Directorate of NCCE was represented by Jemima Andoh-Darbah (Assistant Director) and Wilson Agyare (PFO). Speaking, Madam Jemima emphasized the importance of moral discipline and civic responsibility. She said that accountability, patriotism, hard work, peace, dignity, and dedication are interrelated values that form the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation. When citizens embrace these principles, they contribute to national unity, development, and stability. Every Citizen, Institution, and Community has a role to play in defending and promoting constitutional values.

The day shared moments of reflection and gratitude and rendered special prayers and thanksgiving songs.
