The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), on Wednesday , 13 May, 2026, in collaboration with the Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly, engaged members of the public in a sensitization exercise on tax compliance as part of efforts to augment the Government’s revenue mobilization drive.
The engagement, held at Akateng and Sekesua market within the district, aimed at educating citizens on the importance of paying taxes and levies, and how tax revenue contributes to national and local development. Participants were taken through their civic responsibilities as taxpayers and the need to support government initiatives through voluntary tax compliance.
The Commission also highlighted the constitutional obligation of every citizen to honestly declare their income and satisfy all tax obligations as stipulated in Article 41(j) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. It further cited Article 41(g), which enjoins citizens “to contribute to the well-being of the community where that citizen lives,” stressing that tax evasion undermines national development and societal well-being.
Community members, largely made up of traders, who participated in the engagement asked questions and shared concerns relating to taxation, service delivery, and the use of public funds. Mr. David Togobo( Assistant director in the district assembly) addressed these concerns and urged residents to collaborate with revenue authorities and the Assembly to ensure effective revenue mobilization.
The sensitization exercise forms part of the NCCE’s ongoing civic education activities aimed at promoting responsible citizenship, strengthening democratic governance, and supporting national development efforts through enhanced public awareness and participation.
