NCCE UPPER EAST REGIONAL OFFICE TAKES CYBERBULLYING EDUCATION TO DREAMS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL*

The Upper East Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its annual citizenship education drive with a targeted engagement on cyberbullying at Dreams International School, Bolgatanga. The programme, held on 8th June 2026, formed part of the Commission’s community and school-based activities under the theme “Growing Up Digital:The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online "

The outreach is in line with the annual citizenship week celebrations which this year's theme mandates regional offices to carry out sensitization against cyberbullying, internet fraud, online child exploitation, and abuse in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations.

Addressing the pupils, NCCE officers Eric Tambola and Madam Bridget Akanama took the students through the dangers of cyberbullying, its effects on mental health and academic performance, and how it contravenes the Cyber Security Act, 2020 (Act 1038), Sections 59 to 68. The facilitators used real-life scenarios and interactive discussions to help pupils identify cyberbullying, understand the importance of responsible internet use, and know where to report incidents.

The session also highlighted the role of the 1992 Constitution in protecting the rights and dignity of every citizen, including children in digital spaces.

Mr. Edmond Sibe, a teacher at Dreams International School, commended the NCCE for the timely intervention. He encouraged the pupils to take the message seriously and to be ambassadors of positive online behavior both in school and at home.

The Bolgatanga Regional Office reiterated its commitment to sustaining such engagements across schools and communities in the region to empower young people to navigate the digital age safely and responsibly.
