The Tano South Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has fronted a peace walk within the municipality, augmenting the Commission’s activities to the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
The walk, aimed at promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence among residents, witnessed the participation of various religious groups, including the Local Council of Churches, the Pentecostal Charismatic Churches all in Techimantia, and many others.
Participants, who marched through the principal streets of Techimantia, were seen wielding placards which communicated a plethora of election and peace-related messages.
Chairman of the Techimantia Local Council of Churches, Rev. Simon Okrah, addressing participants at the end of the walk, stressed the need to sustain peace before, during, and after the elections.
“As citizens and people of faith, we must ensure the elections are free from violence and chaos”, he intimated, adding that peace is the foundation of any progressive society.
Speaking on participatory elections, member of staff of the Tano South Office of NCCE, Mr. Felix Zokli implored the congregants to vote responsibly and not make room for their votes to be merchandised. “Democracy thrives when people vote peacefully and respect the choices of others”, he stated.
The event ended with prayers for the nation and a call for all stakeholders to work together towards ensuring a peaceful, free, and fair December 7 General Election.
