NCCE Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Engages Sawla SHS Students on Integrity and Anti-Corruption

The District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education has urged students of Sawla Senior High School to uphold integrity and reject corrupt practices in their daily lives.

The call was made during an engagement with members of the school’s Civic Education Club on 22nd May 2026 at the Assembly Hall of Sawla Senior High School. The programme formed part of the ongoing civic engagements on the rule of law and the fight against corruption under the Participation, Accountability and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) programme.

Addressing the students, the NCCE District Director explained that integrity remains one of the most important values in building a responsible and corruption-free society. He described integrity as “doing the right thing even when no one is watching,” and encouraged the students to practise honesty, discipline, fairness, and accountability in school, at home, and in their communities.

He noted that corruption does not only happen in public offices, but can also begin with dishonest acts such as cheating in examinations, lying, misuse of school resources, abuse of leadership positions, and failure to account for money entrusted to individuals. He therefore urged the students to build strong moral values early in life so they can become responsible leaders in the future.

The engagement also highlighted the importance of the rule of law in promoting justice, peace, and accountable governance. Students were encouraged to respect school rules, obey the laws of the country, report wrongdoing through the appropriate channels, and avoid behaviours that undermine public trust and national development.

Also present at the programme were Mr. Mohamed Abdul Rahman Kipo of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice and Mr. Luke Panpogbee, Senior Programme Officer of the Coalition for Development of Northern Ghana (NORTHCODE), a non-governmental organisation.

The programme ended with a call on Civic Education Club members to serve as ambassadors of integrity, accountability, and responsible citizenship within the school and the wider community.
