The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged students of SDA Basic School, Kpone, as part of activities marking the Citizenship Week celebration. The engagement was held under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age.”
The programme began with an introduction to the 1992 Constitution of Ghana as the supreme law of the land. Students were educated on the importance of the Constitution in guiding citizens’ conduct, promoting peace and order, and protecting the rights and freedoms of all persons.
As part of the engagement, the students were sensitized on their civic responsibilities, particularly in relation to the use of digital platforms. They were encouraged to use the internet responsibly and to understand that their actions online must reflect discipline, respect, and accountability.
The NCCE team also emphasized the need for students to verify information before sharing it online in order to avoid the spread of misinformation. They were advised to demonstrate responsible digital behaviour in their comments, posts, and interactions on social media and other online platforms.
Furthermore, the students were cautioned against cyberbullying and the sharing of harmful content. They were encouraged to show empathy towards victims of online abuse and to report such incidents to their teachers, parents, or the appropriate authorities.
The engagement successfully deepened the students’ understanding of their constitutional duties in the digital space and reinforced the need to become responsible digital citizens. It ended with a call on the learners to uphold the values of the Constitution, respect the rights of others, and use digital platforms positively for personal growth and national development.
