NCCE, IJM Ghana Hold Capacity Building Workshop on Child Trafficking

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in partnership with International Justice Mission (IJM) Ghana, has organised a four-day capacity-building workshop on child trafficking for selected staff of the Commission.

The workshop, held in Ho in the Volta Region from April 12 to April 15, 2026, aimed at strengthening the knowledge and skills of participants in identifying, preventing, and responding effectively to child trafficking in Ghana.

The programme commenced with an opening ceremony during which NCCE and IJM Ghana formalised their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement is expected to enhance joint efforts in public education, advocacy, and community engagement in the fight against human trafficking.

In attendance were the Chairperson of the NCCE, Ms. Kathleen Addy; Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah; Deputy Chairman in charge of General Services, Mr. Victor Brobbey; Mr. Kofi Worlanyo, National Director for Advocacy and Partnerships at IJM Ghana; and Jackie Oyimer, Government Relations Specialist, along with other officials from NCCE and IJM Ghana.

A total of 35 participants, drawn from districts identified as high-risk areas for child trafficking, took part in the training. The selection ensured that officers working directly within vulnerable communities were equipped with the relevant knowledge and tools to make a meaningful impact.

Held under the theme, “Enhancing Civic Responsibility and Institutional Response to Child Trafficking,” the workshop featured a series of interactive sessions, practical case studies, and real-life scenarios to deepen participants’ understanding of the issue.

Key topics covered included the scope of human trafficking in Ghana, trauma-informed approaches to community engagement, legal and policy frameworks, implementation strategies, communication and visibility, child protection tools, and reporting mechanisms.

Participants actively engaged facilitators and shared field experiences, enhancing peer learning and practical understanding of combating child trafficking at the community level.

At the end of the workshop, participants were presented with certificates of participation. They expressed appreciation to NCCE and IJM Ghana for the initiative, noting that the knowledge gained would significantly improve their public education campaigns and contribute to national efforts to combat child trafficking.
