NCCE Holds Constitution Quiz Competition for Basic Schools in Acherensua

The Asutifi South District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ahafo Region has organized the second edition of its Constitution Quiz Competition for basic schools in Acherensua.

The competition, held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Church of Pentecost in Acherensua, formed part of efforts to promote civic education and deepen pupils’ understanding of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. The program was sponsored by Nana Baffour of Acherensua and the Asutifi South District Assembly.

Five junior high schools participated in the contest: Methodist JHS, Presbyterian JHS, Islamic JHS, Agyewodin JHS, and Roman Catholic JHS.

In her welcome address, the Asutifi South District Director of NCCE, Georgina Agyeiwaa, described the competition as a platform created to help pupils learn and appreciate the 1992 Constitution. She commended the heads and teachers of the participating schools for their continuous support and strong relationship with the Commission.

She further encouraged the pupils to take civic education seriously and actively participate in Civic Education Club activities to help shape their future positively.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Regional Director, Mr. Atta Kofi Yeboah explained that the Constitution serves as the rulebook of the nation, outlining the rights and responsibilities of citizens as well as the duties of leaders.

He noted that learning about the Constitution at a young age helps pupils grow into informed and responsible citizens. Mr. Yeboah also encouraged contestants to see themselves as winners regardless of the outcome, since they had dedicated time to study and prepare for the competition.

According to him, the quiz was not only about answering questions correctly but also about understanding that a strong Ghana depends on citizens who know their rights and respect their responsibilities. He also expressed appreciation to teachers and parents for helping nurture the next generation of responsible citizens.

Mrs. Rosemary Kwakye, who represented the District Education Director, praised the NCCE for organizing the program and appealed to the Commission to make the quiz competition a quarterly activity for schools in the district. She also advised pupils to remain committed to their studies and commended teachers for their hard work and dedication.

At the end of the competition, Presbyterian JHS emerged winners with 44 points, while Agyewodin JHS placed second with 41 points. Roman Catholic JHS secured third place with 39 points, Methodist JHS came fourth with 37 points, and Islamic JHS placed fifth with 25 points.

All participating schools received certificates, branded NCCE T-shirts, pens, exercise books, and two copies of the 1992 Constitution each. Presbyterian JHS, as winners of the competition, also received an NCCE plaque.

The NCCE expressed appreciation to Nana Baffour of Acherensua and the Asutifi South District Assembly for their financial support towards the successful organization of the event.
