NCCE Engages Upper East Regional Police Command on Constitutional Responsibility in the Digital Age.

The Upper East Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged officers of the Upper East Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service as part of activities marking this year's Annual Constitution Week Celebration.

The engagement was held at the Regional NARPO office of the Ghana Police Service under the theme, "Upholding our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility"

The programme brought together police officers to deepen their understanding of the Constitution and their role in safeguarding democratic governance in an era increasingly shaped by digital technology.

Speaking at the programme, the Regional Head of Programmes, Ms.Bridget Akpanaba highlighted the significance of Constitution Week, noting that the celebration serves as an opportunity to educate citizens on the principles, values, and provisions of the 1992 Constitution. She stressed the need for all Ghanaians to respect and uphold the Constitution to ensure peace, stability, and national development.

The Upper East Deputy Regional Director, Mr. Augustine Akugri delivered a presentation on the theme of the celebration. He emphasized that the digital age presents both opportunities and challenges for constitutional democracy, including the rapid spread of misinformation, cybercrime, online abuse, and threats to privacy and national security. He urged security agencies, particularly the police, to continue upholding the rule of law while promoting responsible digital citizenship.

The presentation also underscored the shared responsibility of citizens, institutions, and security agencies in protecting constitutional values and ensuring that digital platforms are used responsibly and ethically.

Participants actively engaged in discussions and shared experiences on the growing impact of digital technologies on law enforcement and public safety. They reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the Constitution and promoting responsible use of digital platforms in the discharge of their duties.
