The Yilo Krobo Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a stakeholder engagement with selected organizations, traditional rulers, and identifiable community groups to discuss adolescent reproductive health and gender-based violence (GBV).
In his opening remarks, the NCCE Municipal Director, Henrietta Glikpo, highlighted UNFPA’s achievements and contributions to Ghana’s development, particularly in supporting midwifery and mentoring young people to lead purposeful lives.
Delivering a presentation on the state of the municipality, Mr. Adu Mantey, the Planning Officer, expressed concern about Yilo Krobo’s rapid population growth, rising teenage pregnancies, and increasing social vices among the youth. He called for collective action to tackle these challenges.
Traditional leaders present commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. Representatives from the Health Directorate and the Department of Social Welfare also emphasized the importance of sustained education on safe sex practices, aimed at reducing HIV infections and dispelling myths surrounding family planning.
At the end of the discussions, participants developed a roadmap to promote community ownership of adolescent health and gender equality programmes. The session was marked by active participation and constructive dialogue, leaving participants satisfied and motivated to take action.
A UNFPA-led initiative organized by the NCCE, aimed at promoting adolescent health and addressing GBV through civic engagement.
