NCCE Calls on Ghanaians to Match Prayers with Responsible Citizenship at National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has urged Ghanaians to complement their prayers with responsible citizenship and a renewed commitment to national values to build the country they aspire to see.

The call was made by the Bono Deputy Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Peter K. Gyasi, during the commemoration of the 2026 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held at the Christ the King Cathedral in Sunyani. The event was organized under the theme, "Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want."

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Gyasi stated that Ghana's progress would only be realized when citizens matched their prayers with responsible actions rooted in patriotism and civic responsibility.

"The Ghana we aspire to build will emerge when our prayers are matched by responsible citizenship and unwavering commitment to the national values," he said.

He explained that the NCCE's message was a clarion call for all Ghanaians to reflect on the values that define the nation and renew their commitment to building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Ghana for both present and future generations.

Mr. Gyasi noted that the theme of the event challenged citizens to reject indiscipline, violence, dishonesty, environmental destruction, abuse of public resources, and all other behaviors that hinder national development. Instead, he encouraged Ghanaians to embrace accountability, hard work, mutual respect, civic responsibility, honesty, integrity, patriotism, and respect for the rule of law.

He further urged citizens to allow the occasion to inspire them to seek divine guidance and become agents of positive change in their communities and the nation at large.

In his address, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboah, also called on Ghanaians to use the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving as an opportunity to return to righteousness, revive civic responsibility, and deepen their reverence for God.

According to the Regional Minister, the Ghana citizens desire cannot be built on dishonesty, bribery, greed, and injustice. He stressed that the nation's prosperity depends on citizens faithfully performing their civic duties rather than shifting blame for national challenges.

"The nation cannot prosper when citizens neglect their responsibilities," he stated, urging the public to accept responsibility and contribute positively to national development.

The event brought together religious leaders, government officials, and other distinguished personalities from across the Bono Region. Among those present were Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference; Rt. Rev. Festus Yeboah Asuamah, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sunyani; Mr. David Nar-Ire Puobenyere, Acting Chief Director of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council; and Bishop-Elect Martin Amankwaa of the Anglican Diocese of Sunyani, as well as other dignitaries.

The celebration reinforced the importance of combining faith with responsible citizenship and reaffirmed the shared responsibility of all Ghanaians in building a peaceful, united, and prosperous nation.
