National Day of Prayer and thanksgiving Committee Calls on NCCE

A delegation from the recently inaugurated National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Committee has paid a courtesy call on the management of the National Commission for Civic Education. Underpinning the visit from the team was the exploration of points of collaboration between the two parties towards realising a successful event.

Subsequent to a brief introduction of the team from NCCE, Chairperson of the Commission, Ms. Kathleen Addy, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expounded on the mandate, structure, and operations of the Commission. Ms. Addy, on behalf of the NCCE, also expressed delight at their visit.

In response, leader of the delegation and Vice Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji R.Y. Yussif Quainoo, underscored the critical role NCCE plays in rallying the citizenry for a course that is beneficial to the nation.

Stating the essence of the event, the Vice Chairman of the Committee indicated that the institutionalisation of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is in fulfilment of the President’s promise to the populace, adding that it is consistent with Ghanaians’ good appreciation for the importance of prayer. He further intimated that the initiative is aimed at engendering national unity among Ghanaians of all social, political, and religious divides. In this regard, Alhaji Quainoo stressed that organisers of the event at all levels will not countenance the identification of oneself with political party paraphernalia.

Outlining the details of the event, Hajia Hanatu Abubakar Bimi, a member of the Committee representing the Office of the National Chief Imam, noted that the event is slated for this and every 1st July of every year, emphasising that the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, is initiating steps to secure a legal backing for its annual observation. She also revealed that “the event is scheduled to happen in two sessions, the first session will follow the Christian liturgy, and the second one will follow the Muslim worship practices”.

The maiden edition will be observed under the theme, “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity”. Hajia Bimi additionally pointed out that the event will be replicated simultaneously at the regional and district levels across the country.

Meanwhile, the NCCE Chair, Ms. Kathleen Addy, made known the Commission’s readiness to assist in any form within its capacity and area of operation towards recording a successful programme. Further discussions were had on precise areas of effective collaboration between the two parties. In the company of the Chairperson were her two Deputies, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, in charge of Operations, and Mr. Victor Brobbey, in charge of General Services. Also present was the Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, Esq., and other senior management members of the Commission.
