The Tano North Municipal Directorate of the NCCE, with support from GIZ and the European Union, organised an engagement with various women’s groups in Duayaw Nkwanta. The sensitisation programme was held under the theme: “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption in Ghana.”
Chief Inspector Dorothy Dadzie, the District Director in charge of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), facilitated the first session. She educated participants on laws protecting women under the Constitution of Ghana, encouraging them to assert their civic rights. Chief Inspector Dadzie also addressed the public perception that police officers often take bribes. She outlined the legitimate statutory fees the Police are authorized to collect and urged the women to always request receipts for any payment made at police stations.
The Municipal Director of CHRAJ, Mr. Victor Osei, in his presentation, encouraged the participants to be agents of change and to speak up against the increasing levels of corruption in the country. He explained that women and vulnerable groups are often the ones who suffer the most from corruption. Mr. Osei highlighted various forms through which corruption manifests—including nepotism, bribery, fraud, embezzlement, conflict of interest, and sexual harassment.
The NCCE Municipal Director, Mr. Joseph Oduro-Buabeng, expressed appreciation to GIZ and the European Union for their continuous support in the anti-corruption campaign. He urged the women to act as ambassadors of integrity in their communities by reporting corrupt practices and individuals to the appropriate authorities.
Participants were drawn from faith-based organisations, hairdressers and tailors associations (masters and apprentices), Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and market queens.
