The Mion Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged youth wings of the various political parties and called on them to desist from initiating or instigating violence, going into the December 7 polls.
This engagement forms part of activities to culminate education on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE), a two-year project embarked upon by the Commission in partnership with the European Union.
District Director of the Mion NCCE office, Mr. Sayibu Zakiyu in his welcome remarks, urged the attendees to prioritize Ghana and think about the well-being of their family members whenever it dawns on them to carry out any act of violence.
“Have you asked yourself the whereabouts of family members of the political leaders, whose agendas you blindly promulgate”, Mr. Sayibu questioned, advising them to wise up in order not be used to cause mayhem as the General Elections approaches.
In attendance was the Mion District Police Commander, who, in his presentation, underscored the Police’s readiness to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of violence at the polling stations, urging them to conduct themselves in a peaceful and civilised manner.
Touching on drug abuse as an impetus to such atrocities, he cautioned the youth to desist from the indiscriminate use of narcotic drugs and other illegal substances that may serve as a booster to the commission of crime during the election period.
