Civic Education Club Helped to Prepare Me – Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa to PRESEC CEC Members

The Civic Education Club helped to prepare me; there was a certain desire for knowledge and to hone our skills”. This is the response from the Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, who doubles as the Current Foreign Affairs Minister. His statement was on the back of a question from a member of the Presbyterian Boys Civic Education Club, who sought to find out how the club had contributed to his current personality and acumen.

The Honourable Minister, who, in his high school days, was once president of the PRESEC CEC, while interacting with the students, admonished them to cherish strategic friendships and networking even at that stage. According to him, such deliberate actions have a positive impact and are beneficial in the future, citing some benefits he has enjoyed from such intentionally nurtured relationships.

He also clarified that the heated debate and exchange of ideas in the chamber, during parliamentary proceedings, are for the betterment of the country, dispelling the misconception that Members of Parliament on opposite sides are at one another’s throats. He described the process as a contest of ideas.

He emphasized that PRESEC is known for its high standards of academic achievement and praised the students for keeping to them. He further admonished them to remain focused and pursue their goals, making sure that they stop at nothing until they are achieved.

The Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa additionally advised that, as members of the Civic Education Club, they should serve as ambassadors of good behaviour, in order not to make room for the other students to look down on them, which in the long run would adversely affect the Club. He pledged his unflinching support for the club and the school in general.

The students, after the time with the Honourable Foreign Affairs Minister, opined that the interaction has motivated them to believe that whatever they set their minds to is attainable. Meanwhile, the long-serving patron of the Club, Mr. Emmanuel Samuel Kwadwo Larbi, on behalf of the students, extended gratitude to the NCCE for facilitating the visit and for always showing up for the Club.
