Tema Metro NCCE Interfaces with Ghana Immigration Service

The Tema Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in a bid to further strengthen ties with the security agencies within the jurisdiction, has engaged the Tema Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The NCCE delegation, led by the District Director, Ms. Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, expressed immense appreciation to the team from GIS, made up of the Regional Commander, DCOI Evelyn Asiedu Gyekye, together with the Head of Resourcing, Supt. Pearl Selasie Ahiabor, as well as DSI Charity Dery, a Staff Officer.

In her presentation, Ms. Badu outlined the mandate of the NCCE as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and Act 452 of 1993. She emphasised the Commission’s role in promoting civic and constitutional education, highlighting some flagship programmes, including the Constitution Week Celebration, the Citizenship Week Celebration, and other special engagements with schools, faith-based groups, and security agencies.

She commended the Ghana Immigration Service for its active participation in past Constitution Quiz Competitions, noting that the Constitution Quiz Competition is an initiative aimed at stimulating knowledge of the Constitution while fostering healthy relationships among the security services.

The Regional Commander, DCOI Gyekye, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to sustaining its collaboration with the NCCE. She noted that the engagements have been beneficial, offering officers opportunities to deepen their civic awareness and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Both institutions pledged to continue working together, with the Immigration Service assuring the NCCE of its readiness to open its doors for future civic education sessions for officers and staff. The meeting concluded with both parties recognising the importance of strong partnerships between state institutions in strengthening democracy, good governance, and civic responsibility.
