The Central Tongu District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education, based in Adidome, has marked the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration with a radio engagement on responsible digital citizenship.
The programme was held on 2nd June 2026 on Dela Radio 105.7 FM under the theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.” It featured selected pupils from Global Junior High School and E.P. Junior High School, who participated in a live discussion on safe and responsible internet use.
During the programme, the pupils shared their experiences with digital platforms and educated listeners on the dos and don’ts of internet use. They discussed issues such as cyberbullying, online scams, exposure to inappropriate content, and the need for children to use digital platforms responsibly.
The learners also encouraged their peers to be careful about the information they share online, avoid harmful digital conduct, and seek guidance from parents, teachers, or trusted adults when they encounter suspicious or uncomfortable online activities.
District Programme Officers, Mr. Frank Azumah and Madam Doris Elikplim Wagba, used the platform to reinforce the importance of responsible online behaviour. They cautioned the public against the spread of misinformation and disinformation, noting that false information can undermine social cohesion, create mistrust, and affect democratic processes.
The officers urged listeners to verify information from credible sources before sharing it, especially on social media and other digital platforms. They further encouraged parents and teachers to guide children in their use of the internet and help them understand that constitutional values such as respect, responsibility, truthfulness, and tolerance must guide behaviour both online and offline.
Host of the programme, Mr. Kombla Gbortsu, commended the NCCE for its continuous public education efforts and commitment to empowering young people with knowledge on digital responsibility and constitutional values.
The radio engagement formed part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration. It provided a useful platform for learners to contribute meaningfully to public discussions on online safety, responsible digital conduct, and the role of children in upholding the values of the 1992 Constitution.
