The Birim North District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged apprentices of Victory Cakes and Decor in New Abirem on the responsible use of digital platforms as part of activities marking this year’s Annual Constitution Week Celebration.
The engagement took place on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the work premises of Victory Cakes and Decor in New Abirem. It was aimed at educating the apprentices on the need to uphold the 1992 Constitution in the digital age and to exercise their rights and freedoms responsibly both offline and online.
Speaking at the programme, Mr. Samuel Ateban Amuah, ACEO, introduced and explained the theme for the celebration, “Upholding the Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” He stressed that increased access to digital platforms has made it necessary for citizens, especially the youth, to be careful about how they receive, create, and share information.
Mr. Amuah cautioned the participants against misinformation, disinformation, sextortion, and cyberbullying. He urged them to verify information before sharing it with friends and the public, adding that irresponsible use of social media could harm individuals, disturb public peace, and undermine the values of the Constitution.
Ms. Ophelia Orko-Odoi, CEO, also highlighted the Cybersecurity Act, 2020, Act 1038, explaining that the law exists to strengthen national digital security and protect citizens from online abuse and cyber-related crimes. She further advised the apprentices to extend their constitutional responsibilities into the digital space by respecting the rights and dignity of others online.
The participants were encouraged to use social media and other digital platforms to promote truth, peace, tolerance, and national unity. They were also urged to report cases of cyberbullying, sextortion, online fraud, and other harmful digital activities to the appropriate authorities instead of remaining silent or spreading harmful content.
The engagement generated keen interest among the apprentices, who participated attentively and welcomed the practical guidance on how to conduct themselves responsibly in the digital space. They were encouraged to become responsible digital citizens by using online platforms in ways that protect personal dignity, promote truth, respect the rights of others, and contribute to peace and social cohesion.
