WHISTLEBLOWING: THE CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY OF CITIZENS

The Winneba Municipal Director of Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms. Araba Ashun has said that the act of whistle Blowing is a civic responsibility for both the young and the old. She said this at a Community Durbar organized by the Ewutu Senya Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

The Durbar forms part of NCCE’s nationwide sensitization activities under the Accountability Rule of Law and Anti-corruption Program (ARAP) supported by the European Union. This program seeks to engage, educate and empower the citizenry to be active participants in the governance process by contributing to a reduction in corruption, improvement in accountability and compliance with the rule of law, and enhanced environmental governance. The durbar focused on Public Accountability and Environmental Governance.

Focusing her presentation on the whistle Blowing Act, she called on every Ghanaians not to be oblivious of the fact that it is a civic duty to raise an alarm on corrupt acts like misappropriation of public funds, destruction of natural resources, miscarriage of justice among others. She also cautioned Ghanaians to always ensure that their information is accurate before blowing the whistle.
