The NCCE has met with the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP

The NCCE has met with the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP. The Commission engaged the party on its planned activities for the December polls. The discussion centred on electoral violence, political tolerance, education for first-time voters, Parliamentary and Presidential debates for candidates, and ensuring peace before, during, and after the general election. The meeting forms part of the Commission’s on-going stakeholder consultations with political parties and presidential candidates.

Chairman of NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah took the party through some useful programmes by the Commission. These include the launch of 'Matters of Concern to the Ghanaian Voter', Inter-Party Dialogue Committees for peacebuilding efforts in communities, violent extremism, engaging political party youth activists to ensure that the youth are not used for violent activities, and other general voter education strategies.

The General Secretary of the NPP, Mr. John Boadu who led the NPP team appreciated the work of the NCCE but urged the Commission to intensify voter education for the December polls especially on rejected ballots. He also called for increased public education on political tolerance and entreated the NCCE to intensify public education on the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999).
