Drive for Cleaner Markets and Revenue Growth Hits Fumso by Adansi Asokwa NCCE Officers

Traders and marketeers at the Fumso Market Centre in the Adansi Asokwa District were recently engaged in an intensive public education campaign focused on tax compliance and environmental hygiene.

The outreach was led by the NCCE District Director, Jacqueline Mahu, alongside Civic Education Officer Francis Obeng Arthur. The program aimed to bridge the gap between civic responsibility and community development by addressing critical local challenges directly at the market centre.

Fostering Tax Compliance and Revenue Mobilization.

During the sensitization, Jacqueline Mahu emphasized the critical role that local revenue generation plays in funding community infrastructure and public services. Traders were strongly encouraged to cooperate with authorized revenue collectors by promptly paying their official market tolls and tickets. Officials noted that regular compliance ensures the district has the necessary resources to maintain and improve public facilities.

Promoting a Cleaner Market Environment

In addition to financial obligations, the campaign heavily stressed the importance of proper waste management and environmental sanitation. Vendors and shoppers were reminded that maintaining a clean market space is essential for preventing disease outbreaks, ensuring public health, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for commercial activities.

During the interactive session, market women voiced significant concerns, pointing out that Zoomlion sanitation workers have neglected their duties of cleaning the market after daily activities, citing unpaid wages as the reason. They also highlighted internal sanitation challenges, noting that some traders fail to sweep their selling areas after work, while others sweep their rubbish and dump it into neighbouring spaces or other people's areas.

Despite these grievances, the leadership urged all market users to adopt better daily cleaning habits and properly dispose of refuse rather than littering the trading floors. The session concluded with participants sharing their feedback regarding local market administration and these ongoing sanitation hurdles.
