NCCE YENDI MUNICIPAL OFFICE ENGAGES NECCA JHS PUPILS ON UPHOLDING GHANAIAN VALUES IN THE DIGITAL AGE

The Yendi Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged pupils of NECCA Junior High School (JHS) as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The engagement was organised under the national theme, "Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility," with the sub-theme, "Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online".

Addressing the pupils, the Municipal Director of NCCE, Mr Osman Kassim, underscored the importance of nurturing Ghanaian values and constitutional principles among young people in an increasingly digital world. He noted that while digital technologies and social media provide significant opportunities for learning, communication, and innovation, they must be used responsibly.

Mr Kassim urged the pupils to use digital platforms in ways that respect the rights, dignity, and reputation of others. He educated them on the rights and responsibilities of citizens as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and encouraged them to uphold values such as respect, tolerance, honesty, patriotism, and obedience to lawful authority both online and offline.

The Municipal Director further cautioned the pupils against cyberbullying, online harassment, the spread of misinformation and disinformation, and the sharing of inappropriate content. He stressed that responsible digital citizenship requires individuals to verify information before sharing it and to use social media as a tool for promoting peace, unity, and national development.

Mr Kassim also encouraged the pupils to become ambassadors of positive change by demonstrating good character and serving as role models within their schools and communities. He reminded them that actions taken online leave lasting digital footprints and should reflect the values of responsible citizenship.

The engagement featured interactive discussions, during which pupils asked questions and shared their perspectives on the responsible use of social media and digital technologies.

The programme forms part of NCCE’s nationwide Citizenship Week campaign aimed at empowering young people to uphold constitutional values and become responsible digital citizens in the modern era.
