Greater Accra NCCE Marks Constitutional Week with Civic Engagement on Cybersecurity and Active Citizenship

The Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Office of the Commission and the Ghana Immigration Service (Weija Sector), has organised a Constitutional Week engagement at the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly Hall.

The programme, held on Friday, 5th June 2026, brought together staff and key stakeholders to deepen public understanding of constitutional rights and responsibilities and to promote active citizenship in support of national development.

Addressing participants, the Greater Accra Regional Director of NCCE, Mr Agbenu Mawuli, highlighted the significance of Constitutional Week and underscored the need for citizens to uphold the values and principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution. He noted that informed and responsible citizens play a critical role in safeguarding Ghana’s democracy and promoting good governance.

Mr Mawuli also delivered presentations on cybercrime and cyberbullying, drawing attention to the growing threats posed by irresponsible use of digital platforms. He encouraged participants to exercise caution online, respect the rights of others in cyberspace, and contribute to creating a safe and responsible digital environment.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of balancing national security concerns with due process and the protection of fundamental human rights, emphasising that constitutional democracy thrives when security measures are implemented within the framework of the law.

The engagement featured interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions, during which participants sought clarification on various constitutional and cybersecurity-related issues. The active participation of attendees contributed to a lively and insightful exchange of ideas.

The programme forms part of NCCE’s ongoing efforts to deepen civic awareness, strengthen constitutional literacy, and encourage citizens to actively contribute to the development and democratic governance of Ghana.
