NCCE Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogues: Chairman calls for active participation of Parliamentary Candidates

Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ms. Kathleen Addy has called for the active participation of parliamentary candidates of the two hundred and seventy-six (276) constituencies of Ghana in the ongoing dialogue fora organized by the Commission.

She made this call during the Commission’s meeting with the press on November 20, which was purposed to brief the citizenry on NCCE’s activities being rolled out towards the impending 2024 General Election.

Ms. Addy, addressing the press, highlighted the revival of Inter-Party Dialogue Committees at the regional and district levels, Mobile Van Announcements, Human Billboard Campaigns, Political Youth Activists Fora, Dance to the Beat of Peace, Inter-Faith Dialogues, Peace Walks, and Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogues at the regional and district levels as the activities being executed in promotion of tolerance and peaceful coexistence going into the December 7 Polls.

Touching on the essence of the Parliamentary Candidates’ Dialogues, the Chairman explained it serves as a communication bridge between Members of Parliament hopefuls and their constituents while providing a platform for the former to woo the latter for their vote by apprising them of their policies and ideas towards the best interest of the constituency.

“These dialogues are organized with the taxpayer’s money, so it is rather unfortunate when candidates choose not to show up, amounting to a waste”, Ms. Addy lamented. She has thus charged the political parties to urge their parliamentary candidates to honour this medium as and when it takes place in their distinct districts.

Meanwhile, in a closing remark, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Akuamoah, who was present at the presser together with the Commission Secretary and Line Directors of the Commission, appealed to the media to assist in promoting the activities of the Commission, especially at the district levels. Sharing his sentiments, Mr. Akuamoah emphasized that beyond elections, NCCE is very active in living up to its mandate, hence the media coverages and reportages will boost our visibility efforts.
