NCCE MARKS CITIZENSHIP WEEK WITH DIGITAL SAFETY EDUCATION IN GA SOUTH SCHOOLS

The Ga South Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education has intensified efforts to promote responsible digital citizenship among basic school pupils as part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The exercise, held on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, was organized under the national theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” with the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”

As part of the celebration, officers from the Directorate visited selected schools within the municipality, including Asha Laja MA 1 Basic School, Asha Laja MA 2 Basic School, Obaakrowa MA Basic School, Horbor MA Basic School, Kwaku Panfo MA Basic School, Asamoah MA Basic School, and Obom Konkon MA Basic School.

The officers engaged pupils on the importance of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and the need to exhibit responsible behavior while using digital platforms and social media.

Speaking during the sessions, Assistant Director Madam Mabel Sroda Ahiagba and Assistant Civic Education Officer Mr. Abraham Amankwah Adjei urged pupils to become responsible digital citizens by promoting peace, discipline, and respect for the rights of others online.

The pupils were educated on online safety, cyberbullying prevention, digital ethics, and the dangers associated with irresponsible use of the internet.

According to the officers, the Constitution remains the bedrock of Ghana’s democracy and must be respected by all citizens, including children, both offline and in the digital space. They further encouraged the pupils to use social media positively and avoid activities that could undermine national unity, peace, and the freedoms of others.

The pupils were also advised to be mindful of the information they share online and to uphold values such as honesty, tolerance, respect, and responsibility in all their digital interactions.
